Hello Again! Here is my April entry for the Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2012.
I don't have any Reflections stamps so I covered my tag with Idea-ology Terminology Tissue Wrap. I ran the tag through the Vagabond using the Texture Fades Fancy & Floral Frames. Then I coated the tag with Picket Fence Distress Stain to obscure some of the print. This pretty closely resembled Tim's tag background which he did by embossing the tag with the stamped texture fades folder. I added the tag color using Distress Ink and an ink blender. I don't have the Sizzix Alterations Bird Branch die....yet... ;). So I improvised and used the On the Edge Twigs die and trimmed it to make it look like a branch. For the bird I used the Sizzix Movers and Shapers Mini Bird. Both were cut from grungeboard and then colored with Distress Inks. To finish it off I added a crown and word bubble and a little bling at the top!
All in all I was pleased with the result and proved to myself that I don't have to run out and purchase the supplies used to exactly duplicate the tag that Tim made. But I will eventually get that Bird Branch die!!!

CC2C Challenge - Week 2
Today I have my entry for week 2 of the Compendium of Curiosities 2 challenge hosted by Linda on the Studio L3 blog.
The sponsor for this challenge is Angie Lentz. She has generously donated an Idea-ology messenger bag autographed by Tim Holtz! Yay Angie!
This week's challenge is faux patina and can be found on page 58 of A Compendium of Curiosities Vol 2 by Tim Holtz. If you would like to see the technique then buy the book here!
So without further ado, here is my entry...
The tag was made during the Creative Chemistry 101 class. I stamped the background pattern using Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink. I covered a small foam heart with metal tape and applied the faux patina finish to it along with a key from the Idea-ology locket keys. The wings are a Stamper's Anonymous stamp. The banner along the bottom is one of Tim's Sizzix Alteration strips.
This is the first time I've participated in an ongoing challenge and I'm really enjoying this. I was very happy with the way this week's entry turned out. I hope you like it!!!

Creative Chemistry-Day#10
There was only one tag for the last day of the class. It's called Rock Candy Distress Stickles and of course we used Rock Candy Distress Stickles on it!!
I wasn't very happy with the way this tag turned out. But it was late in the day and I was trying to get all of the tags finished so I didn't feel like trying again. When I have more time I'll probably go back and try a couple of the techniques again.
Overall, the class was great! I love the 21 sample tags that I made. The labels that were provided for the back of the tags with the name of the technique and the steps to making it were a great idea! There was a lot of additional information given in the class that I don't think I would have been able to get anywhere else. If you still want to sign up for the class you can here. And once you do you'll always have access to the class content. Do it! You'll be glad you did.

Creative Chemistry-Day #9
Below are my tags for Day 9. Left to right they are Perfect Distress Mist, Perfect Distress, and Perfect Splatter Distress.
My favorite of the three is the Perfect Splatter Distress. You can't see if from the picture but the tag looks like it's aged patina copper! Lots of rusty looking purple and green with the shimmer of the Perfect Pearls! I want to frame it!! I wrote down the colors I used but I'm sure I'll never get it to turn out the same again.

Creative Chemistry-Day #8
Here are my tags for Day 8. Left to right they are Paint Dabber Resist, Crackle Paint Resist, and Shattered Stains.
The paint dabber resist was fun but I was a little freaked out about putting acrylic paint on my stamps. I'm working on not being such a clean freak with my stamps. I'm the type of person who wants to remove every last bit of ink from them so that they look like new after I've used them. It's really time consuming to do that! And to be honest with you I did clean every last bit of the paint off the stamps I used!! Some habits are hard to break.

Creative Chemistry-Day #7
Whew! Who would have thought that an online class could be difficult to keep up with?! I spent this weekend completing the tags for week 2 of the class. There just wasn't any time to work on them during the week after I got home from work.
I wasn't able to do the projects for Day 6 because I don't own any of the new Distress Markers. Maybe someday! Below are the tags for Day 7. Left to right they are Nostalgic Batik, Rusted Enamel, and Distress Powder Resist. I must say that of the three my favorite is the Nostaligic Batik. And as you can see from my samples I was really in to orange for some reason! I've discovered that Spiced Marmalade is now my favorite Distress color!
