Pop-It Up Dies by Karen Burniston

I finally got to play with Karen Burniston's new Pop-It Up dies.  These samples were made for my local store, Whim So Doodle, located in St. Petersburg, FL.  My work, and photography (LOL!), really don't do these dies justice!  The packages come pretty much complete...you get the main die and accompanying accessory dies in various sizes.  All you'll need is paper, stamps and glue to complete some AWESOME cards! And we all have plenty of those three things, right??!!

To see some awe-inspiring work go to Karen's blog or visit her Facebook page, Karen Burniston, Designer.  She has a crack team of designers that produce jaw-dropping work!  Trust me!

Here are my samples...

These first two cards use the Circle Accordion Album die. The second card below also includes the Circle Frame Edge dies.

This next album was constructed with the Oval Accordion Frame die and the Oval Dot Frame Edge dies.  This demonstrates how you can string together as many frames as you like to create an album or use just two frames to make a card (as I did above).  I used Core-dinations paper for the background and Tim Holtz Kraft Resist paper for the dot frame edges.  The images were colored with distress markers and a water brush.  You can barely see the dimension but I cut out the stamped elements with my Sizzix Eclips machine using the Stamp2Cut feature and popped them up with foam tape.

If you're in the St. Petersburg area stop by Whim So Doodle to see these samples "up close and personal"!  And while you're there you can pick up some of these dies.  You'll love them!

Thanks for stopping by!

Frilly and Funkie Challenge - April in Paris

Hello and welcome to another Frilly and Funkie challenge!  The theme for this challenge, hosted by me(!), is April in Paris.  Ooooh-la-la!  Think Spring in Paris...outdoor markets and cafes, daffodils, tulips and lavender in bloom, and flowering trees.  But to qualify, you must include an image of a French landmark, such as the Eiffel Tower, French text or a French word.

Well, in my entry I covered all three of those!!  I used Karen Burniston's Sizzix Accordion Flip 3-D album die along with her Frame & Label-Bracket die to create this Paris-themed accordion album!  The size made it a little difficult to photograph so if you click on the photos below you'll see more detail.

I started off with a paper from Tim's Lost & Found and Destinations paper stash pads. Then I pulled out some Tim stamps as well as various stamps from my own collection and stamped them on manilla cardstock with Ranger black ink. Some images were colored with distress markers using the detail water brush and all were distressed with brushed corduroy and/or walnut stain distress ink. Then the fun began! I chose which images to use and arranged them in the album, from beginning to end, to weave a journey through Paris!

A close-up of the front panel of the album shows the detail in the Eiffel Tower.  It was die cut from chipboard using Tim's new die and then embossed using the matching texture fade folder.  I confess I tried several different applications of paint and metallic stain, sanding and then repainting and adding stain again trying to get the right effect.  I'm not sure that I did but I finally realized that I wasn't really getting anything different so I stopped!

And of course I couldn't neglect the back of the album so I used my Sizzix Serif Essentials dies to cut multiples of each letter and then stacked them for dimension.  I also included the fleur-de-lis, interpreted "Lily Flower", which was cut and embossed with the same die mentioned above.  Then it was painted with a gold paint dabber, sprayed with white dylusions spray and then distressed with walnut stain distress ink.  Interestingly enough, even though the fleur-de-lis symbol is an enduring symbol of France it has never been officially adopted as such by any of the French republics!

Thank you so much for stopping by to check out my challenge project!  I hope like it.  Maybe you are inspired to create something very Parisian and enter it over at Frilly and Funkie, oui?!  We'd love to see it!

I'd also like to enter this at Simon Says Stamp and Show where this week's challenge theme is "Fly".  One of my other goals is to someday fly in a hot air balloon and I've included one on this album!  Now if I was able to fly in a hot air balloon over Paris...that would be icing on the cake!!

The following items that I used on my project can be found at The Funkie Junkie Boutique! The boutique offers it's merchandise at up to a 20% discount from the typical retail price! That's a great deal and you should check it out!!

Be Yourself - Double-High Accordion Flip 3-D Album

Happy Friday to you!  I'm featuring this double-high accordion album as one of my projects for today's Kraft Core Friday Focus over at the Frilly and Funkie blog.  This album was created using Karen Burniston's Sizzix Bigz Accordion Flip 3-D Album die.  The die is actually not this big but I followed Karen's instructions on how to create a double-high album and it was super easy!

I love dies that are multipurpose and this is definitely one of them!  You can use it as-is, create a double-high album/card as I've done, and since you can link the die-cuts together the size of your album/card is up to you!!

For my album I linked two die-cuts together.  I used the new Tim Holtz SA stamp set, Way With Words and the new Core'dinations Kraft Core Shattered Paper for the background of the album pages.  I love the look this paper has without doing anything to it!

On back side of each album page I used Tim's SA Simple Sayings stamp set to add little messages all the way around the album frame.

The little girl was stamped on manila cardstock and colored with Distress Markers using the detail water brush.  I used multiple stamped images and popped up a few pieces with foam tape to give her added dimension.  That doesn't really show in these photos.

I love the way my album turned out and especially love the message it sends!  I have it on my desk at work now.

So hop on over to Frilly and Funkie and take a look at this and the other projects that I created featuring kraft core paper.  I hope you like them and feel inspired to make something of your own with kraft core paper.  Maybe even share it with us at Sunday Share or follow our current challenge theme of April in Paris and submit it there!  We'd love to see what you make!!!

Thanks so much for stopping to take a peek.  Have a wonderful weekend!
