Frilly and Funkie Challenge - Layers and a Word

Hi Everyone!  I hope you're having a fantastic week so far.  Today I have my project for the Frilly and Funkie challenge hosted by Sue.  Sue has asked us to create something with lots of layers.  That could be layers of paper, paint, lace, etc., and there's a twist...you must include a word and the word must be the focal point!

I decided on my word before anything else.  These days my life feels like it's moving at 90 miles per hour and not always in the direction that I'd like.  So here's my piece.  I'll keep this short and sweet.

Layer #1-Tissue Wrap was applied to a 6x6 canvas with matte multi-medium

Layer #2 - Distress paint was dribbled on to canvas and misted with water.  Then I tipped and turned the canvas to let the paint drip all over.  (Note: This is waaaaaay too much distress paint for this size canvas.  I removed ALOT of it with paper towels.  Just thought I'd let you know that and save you some paint!)

Layer #3 - Picket Fence distress paint was applied to the craft mat, misted with water and then I tapped the canvas in it.

Layer #4 - Applied molding paste with a stencil

Layer #5 - Applied metallic rub-on to the stenciled areas

Layer #6 - Applied Brushed Corduroy distress ink over the entire canvas, including the stenciled areas

Layer #7 - And now for my word, grungeboard letters were cut using the Word Play die. They were coated with Picket Fence distress crackle paint, then rubbed with walnut stain and sprayed with Biscotti Perfect Pearls Mist

The result!  I jumbled up the letters in "breathe".  To me that represents what it feels like inside when you need to take a deep breath!

Thank you so much for stopping by to see my project!  I hope you'll take the time to check out all of the beautiful artwork that the other Frilly and Funkie DT members created!  They're uber-talented!  After you do I hope you'll put your own layered project together and play along with us!

The following items that I used on my project can be found at The Funkie Junkie Boutique! The boutique offers it's merchandise at up to a 20% discount from the typical retail price! That's a great deal and you should check it out!!

Adore U

I have a little canvas here that started out at something else but didn't turn out as I originally planned.  So I tried to salvage it and I think it turned out pretty well! I'm entering it at Simon Says Stamp and Show where the challenge theme is Something Messy.  And also at the Ranger Ink blog for their February Color Palette Inspiration challenge.

This is a 6x6 gallery wrapped canvas.  The base layer is Idea-ology Tissue Tape applied with Claudine Hellmuth Matte Medium.  Then I added the modeling paste with a stencil.  Once dry I dribbled Victorian Velvet distress paint directly onto the canvas and then misted it with water.  I tipped and turned the canvas so that the color would run over the canvas and down the sides.  The next layer was an application of Antique Linen distress paint.  I squeezed the paint on to my craft sheet, misted it with water and then tapped the canvas into it drying between each layer.  I repeated this same step with Broken China distress paint and then Picket Fence distress paint.

I applied distress ink in Victorian Velvet, Seedless Preserves, Brushed Corduroy and Walnut Stain.  Then added gold metallic rub-on to the modeling paste and then randomly over the canvas.  And finally I spritzed the entire canvas with Perfect Pearls mist in Perfect Pearl.

The letters were cut from Idea-ology grungeboard using Tim's Sizzix Wordplay die.  I used Tim's crackle paint in Picket Fence followed by Walnut Stain distress stain to create the distressed crackle finish.  The leather heart was cut using Tim's Sizzix Movers and Shapers mini Hearts die from a pink leather scrap.

Thanks for stopping by!

Blueprints for Love!

Happy Valentine's Day!  I thought today would be appropriate for posting this set of tags I made using Tim's Valentine Blueprints stamp set.  These were made for display at my local store, Whim So Doodle.  Coincidentally, this is the same stamp set that Tim used on his February tag for the 12 Tags of 2013!  Admittedly mine doesn't look much like his but that's ok with me!  I'm also entering this at Inspiration Journal where this month's theme is L.O.V.E.

The blueprints were stamped on kraft tags along with images from the Love Struck stamp set.  The tags were sprayed with various Perfect Pearls mists.  The blueprints were stamped again on kraft cardstock and then colored with colored pencils.  I cut out the main image and adhered it on the stamped tag with foam tape.   Then I added the various embellishments and die cuts all glittered and distressed accordingly!

I've included a supply list under the tag photos.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you get to spend the day doing something you love with someone you love!!

Frilly and Funkie - Lacy Heartsy Valentines

Hi Everyone!  Today I have my project for the Funkie side of the Lacy Heartsy Valentine challenge over at Frilly and Funkie!  Terry is our "hostess with the mostest" for this challenge and she has asked us to share Valentine projects that include a heart and lace.  I used Tim's Sizzix Alterations Movers and Shapers In The Bag die and created these Valentine treat bags!

Front

Back

The bags were die cut with paper from Tim's Seasonal Paper Stash.  I used the Movers and Shapers hearts and cupid dies to create the cutouts.  I backed the cutouts with Distress Core'dinations paper that I 'glittered up' using Ranger Glossy Accents and the new Stickles Rock Candy Dry Glitter.  Love that stuff!  Then I embellished the bags with die cuts from other Tim Holtz Sizzix strip dies as well as some stickers.  My lace is the beautiful Venise Lace Heart from the Funkie Junkie Boutique.  I also included Melissa Frances crepe paper and strips cut from Tim's Vintage Lace die.

One of my favorite embellishments is this Melissa Frances resin heart.  I painted it with the new Distress Paint in Victorian Velvet.  Once it dried I wanted to highlight the raised areas and tried to use the Picket Fence distress marker but it didn't show up.  So I put it aside and then when I picked it up again later the marker had dried white and it looked beautiful!  I then remembered Tim explaining how the Picket Fence marker worked when I took his Creative Chemistry 101 class!

I hope you like my treat bags.  I'll confess that one of the best things about this project is that I got to eat the some of the candy that I put in them for the photographs!!  I purposely bought the coconut hearts because I don't like coconut and I gave them to friends that do like it.  That way I didn't HAVE to eat all of the candy!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you'll play along with us at Frilly and Funkie by showing us your lacy heartsy Valentine projects!
